Checking In
Compassionate connections are essential to the narrative of life and a cornerstone of mental health and happiness. Checking in with friends, meeting new people and expanding our options and outlooks through shared public space builds community, offers hope, and supports resilience.
Resilience is the result of having the support structure and tools to adapt and recover. When we feel overwhelmed with the make up of our situation and current events, and don't know how to enact change, we can start small by focusing on creating a system of care for ourselves, our circle, and our community. We can intentionally check in with each other and support our common humanity.

Vibrant social networks are important for our wellbeing and can provide a psychological safety net for tough times. Social fitness is similar to physical fitness, not only in its definition of capacity, but that it too requires effort, intervals, and consistency over time to develop and maintain its effectiveness. People achieve self-actualization through co-actualization and whether asking for help or offering it, reaching out makes space for empathy, compassion and support.
Remember that it’s okay to not be okay, healing is not linear and you matter. You can hold space for love and grief at the same time, and checking in on a friend is also a way to check in on yourself. Anytime you need it: 988 lifeline • domestic abuse • emotional abuse
